Isaac Barrio - 2-16-2005

Welcome to Round Nine of the Manny Pacquiao vs Erik Morales Mailbag.

Round One
Round Two
Round Three
Round Four
Round Five
Round Six
Round Seven
Round Eight

Elich Ramirez: Are you EM's fan? You actually sound like one.

Isaac Barrio:

I'm a fan of both Pacquiao and Morales. Hate to see one of them lose. Props to both fighters for taking this fight. May the best man win. Thanks for writing in.

Ben Kisla: There's the new kid on the block whose name is Edwin Valero, he looks very promising...do you see the possibility of engagement between the two? Do you think MP can take on EV this year? Both have punching power but MP's has more fight experience, but hey, EV is a lot younger...

Isaac Barrio:

A Manny Pac vs. Edwin Valero fight might not ever happen. I haven't heard any word that Valero has been cleared to fight, he is currently on a medical ban. I have seen Valero in "Real" action; he is a very powerful puncher. However, at this point in their careers (if Valero even has one) I would take Manny by TKO in the early rounds (1-3). Don't buy the Dougie hype; Valero is untested and green as they come.

Tzarina Tinidor Gil: Loco! let this world witness if you won't do what you just wrote, Mr. Barrio..we, the surfers seem that you lost your credibility because of the retracking of your bold statement..pobre!but, anyway I advise you not to do it next time..

anyway, Pacquiao will win by Morales via 1st rd TKO..but I'm a Morales fan..

Isaac Barrio:

Yes, I'm a bit loco. But did you really think for a second that I would jump out a window if Erik lost? Come-on now! Get a grip with reality! What needs to be understood is that it is very possible that Manny losses this fight. It is not a cake walk; it isn't set in stone that Manny will win. The question should be, What will you do if Manny losses?

Daniel delos Santos: I think Pacquiao and Morales both has 50-50 chance in this fight..the advantages are in Pac's hand as he has a greater chance on taller boxers because he can land more accurately featuring the wide space of the body..

Isaac Barrio:

I agree. The fight is a coin flip. Either can win and either man can win by KO. I think Manny must replay his performance he displayed with Marco Antonio Barrera. Manny must work the body and avoid head hunting.

Dave Del Mar: Erik's most memorable fights have been against Barrera. Those three fights have been very close and a lot arguments could be made to who really won each of those three fights. Do you agree that Erik makes his opponents fight his kind of fight and could this be a close one just like the three he had with Barrera?

Isaac Barrio:

What we must understand is that Morales - Barrera is a rivalry, the most heated rivalry in boxing. Given that both are Mexican as well…logic gets checked at the door. What I'm trying to say is, when two rival Mexicans fight it is bound to be a war. We can take nothing from the three Morales - Barrera fights and apply it to the Morales - Pacquiao fight.

JOSH KODAI: There will be a great showdown on March 19,2005 fight between MP and EM and as far as I am concern the camp of EM remains quiet as far as conditioning and training is concerned while on the other hand MP's camp keeps on saying that their man is almost at his peak(it is the condition he had when he fought MAB and JJM many months ago) and there they go again,MP camps literally showing the world that they are running-out of sparmates because almost all of the sparmates of MP was injured after the sparring session.Do you think that MP's camp playing mind game to EM's camp or this is just a gesture of over confidence while the other camp is simply observing and don't want to talk at all about the fight? and do you think also that the strategy of MP's camp will affect the training of EM which I know is there primary objective or the advantage will switch to the side of EM's camp because they remain focus and quiet and don't want to give the world any hint about their strategies on March 19,2005 fight night?

Isaac Barrio:

If you haven't heard anything from Morales camp then it means he is all business. Erik isn't worried about the hype; he has been here and done that. Manny's camp may be trying to play mind games but Erik's camp isn't the one biting the bait. It is the media and legions of Manny fans that are taking it hook, line, and sinker. Expect both fighters to be is shape and Expect both fighters to give it their all. Thanks for writing in.

John Mc Mendy: MP and EM are both great fighters, it is really hard tell what is going to happen on their fight. I think EM's advantage are height, reach and chin while MP has the speed and left big punch. I don't believe EM has bigger punch than MP since he had 36 rounds (almost 2 hrs) fighting MAB and did'nt knock him and MP did it within 11 rounds (just under 33 minutes). Am I right or I am right??? NO FAVORITISM PLEASE!!!

Isaac Barrio:

You are somewhat correct in your assumptions. The only thing I can add is that there is something different with Morales - Barrera. They truly do have hatred towards each other. On those three nights when they fought, Morales and Barrera were so full of Mexican machismo that not one punch was going to put them down.

The Destroyer: Pacquiao is not only a good fighter but he has a heart too..he dedicates his fight for his countrymen..and I think this kind of determination will KO Morales it may not be an easy job but I think Pacquiao will win

Isaac Barrio:

I agree. Pacquiao has tons of heart and carries the pride of the Filipino people. Will it be enough? We will know once the bell rings on fight night.

Maurice Magallanes: The only way to beat MP is for EM to fight the pacman dirty!

Isaac Barrio:

No. Morales can land a perfect uppercut and it will be lights out for PacMan.

arevil einnob: It is obvious in your poll results that many observers feels that Erik will be KOd by Manny. Do you think that the respondents to your poll is biased?

I am a filipino, I am an avid fan of Boxing. I watched EM, MAB, and JM fights their opponents.

I think that of the three fighters i mentioned, only Marquez can match Manny Pacquiao.

What do you think Mr. Barrio? Am I right?

Isaac Barrio:

And the polls said John Kerry was going to win over George Bush. Who is the President of the United States?

I think of the three MexiCANS, Morales is the toughest and meanest.

Ronald Moncayo: First, I would like to say some comment of what IB answer to JAM GUTZ at mailbag7. "Manny needs to do more then just be aggressive. If you look for and expect a KO then chances are it won't come." <--- IB... Verse says "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." I think PACMAN & his aggressiveness of this fight just be a sign that he can and believe he do the thing. If you expect the worst, you’ll get the worst…if you expect the best, you’ll get the best. Try to be in ring then expect that you’ll be knocked out, and let’s see what happen. Boxing is not the same with a poker game.

By the way, am an avid boxing & a PAC fan & am not also underrating EM. The latter has all the edge against the former. His height, reaches, experience and power which hoisted him on top of his division. One thing, this is their first ring encounter and none of them knows his foe well until they start to box and I think PAC’s aggressiveness will do a bit advantage on the fight as to what happen to JMM on the first round of their encounter. I know EM is not JMM, all am saying is that when the bell ring, aggressiveness for sure will dictate rest of the game. Lastly, if EM is El Terrible, the MP is No Fear. Whom you want to bet? As I got for NO FEAR, I wish to have some emailed comments from you when the fight night done. Thanks & more power to you and the HardCoreBoxing.

Isaac Barrio:

Wow. So spirited! I like that. What I meant by being over aggressive is Head Hunting. You got me; maybe I should have explained myself more. Manny must be aggressive, but a controlled aggression. Manny must work the body. If Manny is only looking to land shots to the head then he is in for a long night. And for the record, Both fighters have NO FEAR.

Frank Delfin: The big left hand punchers I can recall belonged to the heavier weight classes. Guys like Joe Frazier and Bob Foster possess big left hooks. Also light heavyweight Marvin Johnson as well. The last little guy with a big left punch was Lew Tindler who was a lightweight in the '20s. Now comes the banger in Manny Pacquiao. I have been fortunate enough to view most of Manny's fights, and I can only conclude that all of his fights hinges on that left hand. That real bonafide haymaker of a left. It is true that Manny's conditioning is excellent, his speed is exceptional, but what really makes the difference is that powerful left hand. It could make or break his fight with Erik Morales. The left hand is Manny's passport to greatness. It is beautiful to watch when he throws it. The leverage of that left will be akin to that straight right hand of Tommy Hearns. Its drilling impact will be Tyson-like. Manny knows the high stakes on this one. He will back his punch with such a burning desire that will enable him to reach out for that something extra when the fight goes to the championship rounds. He will dig in to his reserves, as they say and he will always unleash that thing that made him to what he is today; that big straight left hand. What's your verdict???

Isaac Barrio:

Nice History. Great comment and question! What can I say? I agree. However, Manny must focus on landing to the body so his left will be more effective in the later rounds. This fight will not end early. Manny will be in shape but will be mentally ready if he does not score the early KO? I think he will. Ii is going to be a hell of a fight. May the best man win! Thanks for writing in.

Pepsi Garcia:

To Mr. Barrio:

If Manny beat Morales and koed him in at least 3 rounds, and you did not jump out of the window..you are not a man of delicadeza..because a man does not say something he won't do..let us say it is just a satirical wit, but hey! This is a public forum..better say that if you are just chatting privately with your friends and the whole world attests to it..if you won't jump out of the window and Pac demos Morales in the first few rounds, I'm sorry but the whole world, even Mexican boxing fans is a witness to what you wrote..

And in case you turned out to be a coward and backed off, next time be careful with what you write..you cannot do something and later realize your mistake and change it as if you rewind it..this is a public forum, Mr. Barrio..this is not a comic strip or a play..what you say will surely reflect..

gracias amigo! su ijo bien piensa que si..mi ultimo adios, el filibusterismo! noli me tangere..

Isaac Barrio:

Ha..Ha..Classic! Hey Pepsi..I prefer Coke!

Admerald: Sir, I'm one of those who think that PAC would win the game via UD after he deck EM at least twice in the bout. PAC can surely knock EM, but EM has a terrible heart and he would not let himself snoring in the canvas but would strive to rise and retaliates. And I also see it as would be a better fight than any of the EM-MAB series.

Isaac Barrio:

What you say is very possible. If a Morales-Pacquiao series can live up to the Morales-MAB series then we fans are in for a treat.

art: who else will be fighting that night? Thanks Art

Isaac Barrio:

Does it matter? OK..maybe it does. Jorge Arce vs. Hussein Hussein, Martin Castillo vs. Eric Morel, and the son of a legend...Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I dont know what are TV fights though.

Mikhail Kaztrov: Who do you think is the better boxer of the three(Barrera, Morales, Marquez)? Why?

Isaac Barrio:

Tough one. I think it goes like this (at least for me).

1. Morales (I have him 2-1 vs. MAB)
2. Barrera
3. Marquez

If we go by pure Boxing skills then it is Marquez, if we add intangibles such as heart, power, experience, then Marquez falls to the back of the pack and Morales edges slighty ahead.

Kuriambag: With perfect timing, MP can deliver devastating Uppercut that will put EM on his knees. though i have respect for EM's boxing skills i think Manny will win this one via KO in later round.

Isaac Barrio:

I agree. But it is a two way street. Morales can also land that uppercut.

Maria Cristina Sy: I think Morales will be koed in the 1st round..he cannot ko Manny Pacquiao..Morales's fights is far from convincing..he cannot knockout Barrerra and Hernandez..I am a Morales fan but I think Pacquiao is just too strong for the now becoming more terrible Morales..Manny just throws "many" great quality punches than Erik, who seems rather sick and frustrated the times that Barrerra and Hernandez throws good combinaations..Man, Morales has no cool..

Isaac Barrio:

I seriously doubt we see a first round KO of Morales. If you are so sure, go ahead and lay some cash on it, there are plenty of casinos willing and ready to take your bet.

Roj: If you were the oddsmaker for the fight... How would you "score" the odds between Pacquiao vs Morales and WHY?

Isaac Barrio:

A coin Flip. Even money. Both fighters are pretty much equal.

Andres Rayo: I think Barrerra is afraid of Pacquiao.. Because he never mentioned anything that he wanted to fight Pacquiao...Im for both fighters..My dad is a Filipino and my mom is a Mehicana..Hasta Manana! Viva pareho Mexicano ana Filipino..

As of Morales, do you think height is an advantage if you have an opponent as wise and killer-instinctual like Pacquiao? I think it will be a liability becuase there is more room for pac to connect, and we all know that any part of the body that Pac landed is a deathblow..

Isaac Barrio:

Does Pacquiao know the five point palm-exploding heart technique?
