4MannyPacMoralesFight (14K) Post fight Pacquiao Vs Morales Mailbag Part V

By Kimo Morrison & Isaac Barrio - 4/4/2005

Revisit the Action. Round by Round: Pacquiao Vs Morales

Top Pangilinan:

I'm a big fan of Pacquiao and I think the fight was really awesome and a classic one. I think Manny's cut in the 5th round has big effect on the outcome of the fight. I have to admit though that Morales really outboxed Manny on this fight. I would like to see the two mix it up again but this time i think it would be better if they will be allowed to wear the gloves of their choice just to prove that gloves really don't matter in the fight

Kimo Morrison:

It MAY make a bit of a difference and if Pac KO's him in the first next fight (if there is one) then they will blame the first one of the gloves for sure but, I think that there were alot more things that all came together working against Pac and destiny.

albert:

manny is a true warrior, but please no more rematch with eric morales.eric is stronger and bigger fighter,i think manny should go back down to 126 lbs.where he dominates, hes superior in that weight class where nobody can beat him, manny i salute you.....youre the best of the best....

Kimo Morrison:

Nonsense, I would love to see these two battle again and think that Pac has a damn good shot at winnig a re-match.

yetsbo:

Maybe in the sportsbook, it was EM who was the underdog, but objectively it was MP who was going against the odds. Mp was the one who adjusted to a heavier division fighting the best of the best without even blinking. How many boxers would duplicate this and fight a momentous classic. Mp is the true warrior where fear is unheard of. congrats to manny for his guts and huevos. Look at JMM and MAB.they keep their belts hostage by fighting fights nobody cares about. throw away the belts. Just fight for what the fans deserve.

Kimo Morrison:

Fight! Fight! Fight!...you got to take your hat off too the two of them for bypassing all the BS.

Majestician:

Manny Pacquiao can beat Morales in a rematch. All he has to do is trade with Morales and not back up too much. It seemed as though Manny tried to outbox Morales and we know what the result would be if he is to do that! As I saw, Morales was the aggressor and Manny was the counterpuncher. Manny is used to being the aggressor and if he becomes that in a rematch, I can still see Manny winning convincingly! Also, manny and his team needs to focus. They shouldn't let carzy Pacfans in their gym every single day and bother Manny with wantings of autographs, photos and other stuff. They bother Manny too much. Roach went to a conservative strategy last Saturday. That's not Manny's natural style! Bad move. Anyways, what are you doing Saturday night?

Kimo Morrison:

Very well put, I think I will leave it like it is...at that...

Juan Tamad:

First of all, I'm a full blooded Filipino from Mindanao just like Pac. I don't really think that Pac stood a chance against Morales eve before the fight. Morales is a brilliant boxer and apparently not a counter-puncher like Marquez , but just like any other filipino would do, you go with your brother. He just can't adapt to the fight like Hopkins, Mayweather, or Marquez. If he wants to fight Marquez, Barera , or Morales, he has to be an overall fighter. He already has the power, blood and guts, all he needs is to smarten up. If he can do that just like the new and improved Gatti(a brawler turned smart boxer), he'll be absolutely formidable. Trust me it can be done.

Kimo Morrison:

He will never be able to make the full circle turn that Gatti has, mostly because he has tunnel vision once he feels as though a fight is slipping in the slightest.

sam kenpo:

I am a Filipino and I rooted for the Pacman to win. I know he can win but Boxing is about styles and the sooner you make your adjustments, the more favorable for you. Paquiao lost because he did what he was expected to do, land that big punch. He fought too straight up and wasnt patient enough to create angles favorable for him. I guess he did'nt train that way. Pacquiao expected Morales was going to fight him straight up, Well as we found out, he was wrong. Morales defense is clearly based on anticipation, patience and control. He also knows the Pacman's comfort zone. He really studied his opponent, Heck lets give him credit! His Offense was based on opportunities and he was really patient in creating those opportunities that's why he got the bigger punches. Pacman's defense is his offense. He relied on brute strength, emotion and inside encounters, But he wasnt a thinking fighter thats why he was often frustrated. Pacman is a great fighter but not really smart for this fight. If he is to fight again with anyone for this matter, he should know how to pace himself and get good angular reads. He should also know how to manage his energy. He was grasping for air after the third round!

Kimo Morrison:

He was! I saw that too, he was winded! and I belive that it was because he had been hurt worse than anyone thought come the end of round 1 and was in a panic himself to try and regain face. With him it was all about honor, and he was damn near beat out of the ropes in the opening round! Pride kicked into overdrive...adrenaline full force and BAM there goes your wind.

nacho en' penoy:

i'm a filipino fan of both fighters eric morales and manny pacquiao. both fighter fights in a classic duo last march 19. well done eric!. a winner or a losser both have to accept each fate. manny is a great boxer as known by many. its ok to lose manny!, just accept your defeat with eric. you can recover again and the make it next time you meet (e.m.) or with any featherweight greats just show them what you got! i believed you can beat them all! just have a heart! you can be as great as Ali!

Isaac Barrio:

Great comment. Manny Pacquiao fans must support their man through thick and thin. My gut feelings tell me that Manny will be back and remain in the Boxing spotlight.

Kenneth Atiwag:

It was indeed a very good, entertaining tough fight! At the end of the 12th round, it was a very very close fight. One thing should be very clear; that is, either of the two would have won the fight. It should have been a SPLIT DECISION NOT UNANIMOUS favoring Morales considering the volume of quick hard and short punches that the Mexican Star had received (as compared to what he had thrown on Pacquiao albeit those were readily visible hard punches)- Morales throws one punch; Pacquiao responds with three to six blows. In fact, Morales was seen being hurt and staggered many times specially in the 12th round despite of the damage inflicted on the right eye of Manny due to a head butt, which was not properly acknowledged though.

Another thing is that there was indeed a cloaked systematic ditch to upset the physical and psychological conditioning of the Filipino Star before the fight involving individuals and institutions - If I may interpret events before the fight.

IN THE END, BOTH FIGHTERS DESERVE CONGRATULATIONS though we expect a REMATCH very soon!

Isaac Barrio:

Indeed it was a close fight. Manny could not find his rhythm or range. A rematch is a must! Morales was clearly the stronger man. I think Morales was more tired the hurt in the 12th round.

Batingaw:

It all boils to a one point. All sport are money based games.

Pity some people used athletes to earn a lot of these things. Sacrificing the carrer and country's pride.

Shame on them.

Isaac Barrio:

Boxing is a business. People must make money or there is no point in doing it. I do agree that Manny needs to be careful of the people he surrounds himself with.

lock7horns:

The Winning gloves, the eye-test, overtraining, wranglings inside the team - each of these could have played roles why Pacman lost to Morales. But in my mind, three factors consistently outshined the others:

1) the tremendous pressure that came with the support he was receiving; (I just couldn't imagine how Manny had handled the huge expectations placed on his shoulders by his countrymen and the boxing world.)

2) the headbutt; (this severely limited Manny's performance from the 5th round thereafter.)

3) preoccupation with the 'Manila Ice' crap and change in his fighting strategy. (Had he fought Morales with the way he demolished Barrera, Pacquiao could have knocked Morales out and cold in the early rounds! El Terrible should know better.)

Isaac Barrio:

1. I agree. The pressure was tremendous but this is a fact of life for anyone with such a high profile as Manny. Manny has to make the appropriate adjustments to deal with the immense fame and pressure.

2. Manny must not use this as an excuse because Cuts are a part of Boxing. If Manny is unable to deal with such things then it will happen again as savvy fighters will take this as a weakness and exploit it. Ask Holyfield, Ask Hopkins...being dirty is part of the game.

3. There may have been a bit of preoccupation with his secret weapon but the fact remains that Morales was bigger, stronger, and more willing to stick to his game plan. Manny landed some solid shots but EVERYONE forgot that Morales has a Chin made of granite. Team Pacquiao must realize that no one single shot can put Morales down.

incredible:

god bless to all fight fans out there! kimo my question is! why all of mexicans believe that eric morales is greater than manny, is this because he win by unanimous decision to manny, damn! and eric says that mannys power is not that hard and powerful, LOL! if they analyze the fight, you can see that manny is just playing with EM, he can escape even EM hits more and yet he can absord all the punches, and when the headbutt came then they'll say it that it is a good punch, oouchh! they are all crazy! how can you say that EM is greater than? well for me its hust his luck! manny only exerted 50% of his power plus his the headbutt or the cut he possess, yo! yo! mexicano! wait for the return of the king! as if this is the LORD OF RINGS the return of the KING! LOL!

PEACE not WAR!

you can also send me your opinion thru my e-mail so that all yo! yo! mexicano can exchange your opinion with me!

Isaac Barrio:

Well, I'm Isaac not Kimo and I will attempt to answer your question. I will forward this to Kimo and maybe he will shoot you his two cents as well.

What gave Manny, the boxing media, anyone the idea that Morales could be knocked out with a single “Manila Ice” punch is beyond me. Morales posses a great chin. It would take a lot more then what Manny had to offer.

Back to the drawing board for team Pacquiao. It will take a better executed game plan if they want to win a rematch.

2PAC:

Manny Pacquiao was cheated. I viewed that fight more than 5 times. Manny has landed many shots than EM. I hope there would be a rematch, that nasty cut was a big factor and that gloves really are pillows. Thanks.

Isaac Barrio:

Manny did not get cheated, he got beat fair and square. Morales fought a well executed fight..no more..no less. Cuts and head butts are part of the game and Manny better get used to it very quick. Kimo mentioned in a article that Manny must get a little dirty himself and everyone thought that was a joke. Still think that is a Joke? Manny better pick up some tricks of his own. It is called being a savvy ring veteran.

Michael Sergio:

I think both fighters did really well, so I think a rematch is a good idea. If one of this fighter don't wanna rematch then that fighter shouldent even be a boxer. My favorite boxer is Manny Pacquiao so I no he would't back down. What about Eric? Manny told every body after the fight he would like a rematch any time, any where. Every body heard that clear. I lost alot of money in that fight so i wish a rematch comes up soon. I just hope Erik don't back down. My money is still on Manny.

Isaac Barrio:

Just the fact that Morales fought Pac right after a tough fight with Barrera should answer your question. Morales won't lean back from anyone.

Chick Ezpeleta:

The only reason Morales got the nod is because he does a good job of maintaining his composure when he's hurt( couldn't hide it in the 12th though)and Pacquiao because of all the blood looked the part of the loser. Erik knows that he got lucky. Pacquiao does need to develop a good counterpunching technique rather than his scampering way of evading an attacker because it makes him look bad. Anyway it was a great fight and Pacquiao deserves a rematch. I hope Erik will oblige.

Isaac Barrio:

No luck about it. It is all about skill at this level of fighting. Morales has the skills. Can Pac now go back to the drawing board and change his plan of attack? If not then the outcome will be the same in a rematch.
