Boxing: HATTON WINS AN EYE OPENER!
Jim Amato - 12/14/2004
Up to this point I had not taken Ricky Hatton seriously. I may have to re-think that. Oliviera is very good fighter, not great but very good. Hatton SHOULD have beat him and he did. I think it was the way that he beat Oliviera that opened some eyes, mine included.
Regardless of Tszyu's impressive win over Sharmba Mitchell, Kostya is ready to be taken. Arturo Gatti is my favorite fighter active today but I don't think that he will beat Tszyu if they meet. I feel the top guy to beat Tszyu at 140 is Floyd Mayweather Jr. Speed kills and I think Floyd will be too fast for the aging Tszyu.
Enter Ricky Hatton. Styles make fights and a Tszyu-Hatton match up would be a WAR !!! At this stage of Hatton's career versus Tszyu in his prime I would have gone with Kostya. Now is a different story. Hatton's youth and vigor should help him wear down the old lion and emerge victorious.
As for Mayweather- vs- Hatton...Well that's a story for another day.
