Kimo and Isaac's Best Damn Boxing Mailbag!
By Isaac Barrio - 4/19/2005
Tyler Spencer:
Do you have any more information on the Kelly Pavlik and Ike Quartey fight june 18th.
Isaac Barrio:
Kelly Pavlik faces Ike Quartey at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, TN. The fight is scheduled as an undercard bout in support of Glen Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver. It is a crossroads type of fight for both boxers. Ike Quartey is looking to win impressively so he can continue on his journey back to the top of the boxing scene. Pavlik is a young gun looking to defeat a name opponent. The fight should prove to be entertaining. Look for Pavlik to dominate the fight in route to a late round TKO.
Takeo:
Barrera vs. Fana
This was a waste of effort, money and time. Do you think that Barrera is turning softy? Is De La Hoya just looking after Barrera. We want to see barrera/pacman II, will it ever happen?
Isaac Barrio:
I would never call Marco Antonio Barrera a softy. Barrera has proven to be warrior. However, new faces bring new attitudes. Hopkins and De La Hoya are both known to stall bouts and hold out until the deal is set to their terms. This isn't necessarily a bad thing (Business Wise) and it doesn't mean that Marco will pick up the habit. I think we will eventually see a rematch between Barrera and Pacquiao.
Tom Donelson:
Isaac,
I enjoy the articles you post from Jim Amato which I read on other sites, but they are still good.
Isaac Barrio:
Yes, Amato is a good writer and has quite a following. He does write for a lot of sites. Maybe one day he will be exclusive to Hardcore. Thanks for reading and writing in.
Steve:
I do a lot of boxing stories for my local paper here in NC and enjoyed what you asked Robert.
Isaac Barrio:
Thanks steve. I appreciate the comments. In case anyone wants to read the interview here is the link: Interview with Robert Guerrero
Dennis Allen:
Nice positive interview and good to see Robert is doing well today.
Isaac Barrio:
I tried to do this interview different from the many that were already were out. Robert is indeed looking good. Robert still needs some work but he is right on track and should become a world champion one day.
Jorge:
Sorry to burst you bubble my tagalo friends or whatever.
There is no way pac could beat morales . pac has only one punch and thats it. the only reason pac got in some shots in the 12th is because morales let him. come on why do you think he turned southpaw . to give him a chance and show him up . but he ain't stupid either he waited till the end. but still to mock pac like that was pretty cool to watch. morales is too much of a well rounded fighter. and i think pac just doesn't possess the skill to get into the ring with eric. and if you actually see the fight more than once . you will see that morales wipes the floor with him
Isaac Barrio:
If they do ever rematch, Pacquiao will have his work cut out for him. Pacquiao and his team did not realize that Morales probably has the best chin in boxing. Pacquiao wasn't able to crack it the first time out and I think he will have a more difficult time doing so in a rematch. If they do rematch I would have to take Morales by late round TKO because Morales has tasted the power that Pacquiao has to offer, nothing will hold Morales off the second time around.
Super Rands:
Hey Kimo & Isaac,
You guys rock!!! (I praised you, so pls consider my e-mail...)
Ok, this time, no strings attached... you guys really rock!!!
First of all this is not the main reason for my e-mail but to start things off: (1) Why does 90% of your Pac vs EM mailbag from Pac fans and only a few from EM fans? I'm a Fil from Australia but I am fair so I also would like you guys to shoe e-mails from EM's fans. If the reason is because 90% of the mail came from Pac fans, then never mind this question coz it has been answered already.
Now for my beef...
(2) Do you guys like Murad Muhammad? (3) Does America in general like Murad? (4) Does America like the Pacman? (5) Is it all right for the promoter to get heaps more money than the fighter himself? (6) It seems that it's in the contract that Pac should receive $1.75M for the EM fight. SO if HBO gives $2.8M to Murad, is it all right for him to pocket the $1.05M difference PLUS ALL of 40% of the PPV share? (7) What does the Ali Act say on this regard? (8) Lastly, most importantly, please, please, please write something on this. Is the Pacman entitled to more of the pie (morally and/or legally)? Should he be instead be thankful that Murad gave him millions (peso) even if Murad made more millions (dollars)?
(9) Bonus question please, would you be queueing to buy ringside tickets if the public execution of Murad will happen in the future?
Isaac Barrio:
Yes we do rock but I rock a little more then Kimo does. Now to your questions:
1. I would say that Pacquiao has a bigger following then Erik and that Hardcore Boxing is well viewed in the Philippines. I would love for more Erik fans to mail in with their views and opinions.
2. I have nothing against Murad Muhammad. I don't know him personally and can't really say anything negative about him. I don't know the inner details of the deal between Pacquiao and Murad. However, if Manny was really ripped off by Murad then I understand the frustration.
3. I don't think America (Outside the Expert Boxing Fans) really knows or cares who Murad Muhammad is. Everyone knows who Don King is; Murad is not yet on that level of visibility.
4. From what I have heard and know, Americans love Manny Pacquiao. There is nothing to hate about the man. Americans love a warrior who is willing to go Balls Out and Manny fits this perfectly. I would say he is a rising star.
5. No. It is never right for the side show to get more then the main attraction and there is no doubt that Manny is the main attraction.
6. Once again, No. If Murad did this he will have hell to pay. Manny might have a good case in court and Murad may have a difficult time finding other fighters willing to work with him.
7. I think the Ali Act states that Murad must disclose exactly how much money he will receive as a promoter, how much training expenses are and what will be deducted, and any reductions that will or have taken place. If Murad did not follow the law then it will be a cut and dry case. It is train robbery if Manny does not get his cut of the actually Pay Per View monies.
8. No. It was Manny's ass on the line so Manny deserves the bigger cut. Boxing is a serious sport. Injury is a part of the game. If Manny were to get seriously hurt he would never be able to fight again. Would Murad pay his medical bills and take care of his family? No!
9. Laughing…. Not at this time. But if the charges are true then sign me up.
Lavon Sweet:
Thunder and Lightning
When exactly is the fight going to take place?(dates)
Isaac Barrio:
Man!! Get your head out your …never mind…
The fight is taking place on June 25 in Atlantic City. Don't ask for tickets because the fight is Sold Out. Make sure you buy it on Pay Per View because this is one fight that is worth the cost. Man…I'm not even going to pretend or lie…Go Gatti!!
